We are pleased to invite you to the annual WSDC debating tournament English College Open 2018!

Tallinn English College Debating Club is pleased to invite you to the 7th annual English College Open tournament which will be held in Tallinn, Estonia from Friday to Sunday, 26th – 28th of January, 2018. It is organised by the Tallinn English College Debating Club which is the oldest in Estonia and played an important role in the birth of Estonian Debating Movement. During previous years, the tournament has involved participants from UK, China, Germany, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania.
The event will feature educational workshops for debaters, adjudicators and coaches on the first day in addition to the 6-round tournament. Workshops will be related to the themes of the prepared motions and will be announced in due course.

The format used will be WSDC, with 3 members per team. ECO will consist of 6 preliminary rounds, semifinals and the Grand Final. The best 8 teams out of the preliminary rounds will advance to elimination rounds. In the preliminary rounds, there will be 2 prepared motions and 2 impromptu motions. There will be an Impromptu Motion for the Semi Finals and a different prepared motion for the Grand Final. Prepared motions will be announced on our Facebook page. Round 1 will be seeded randomly, next rounds will be power paired.

All participants will be ensured space in a classroom in Tallinn English College for sleeping. Own sleeping bag/mattress has to be brought. Teams from one school will be put in the same room. It is possible to shower during the three days in Tallinn English College Sports Hall. Information about how and when showers can be used will be provided during the event.

There is also a possibility to stay at nearby hostels (for an additional cost). If you wish to do so, please make your own arrangements for accommodation.

Tallinn English College is located in the heart of Tallinn and is close to the beautiful Old Town. It is possible to go shopping, wander around the historic Old Town, visit interesting cafes and taste delicious food, and even to ice skate. We are happy to answer any questions about where to go or what to see.
